Communication Interface Module Replacement

The vehicle communication interface module (VCIM) has a unique set of numbers tied to each vehicle, including the 10-digit station identification and the 11-digit electronic serial number.

These numbers are used by the National Cellular Network and OnStar to identify the specific vehicle, and therefore should never be exchanged with those of another vehicle.

Removal Procedure

Remove the communication interface module screws, disconnect the mobile telephone antenna cable, electrical connectors, and navigation antenna coaxial cable.

Installation Procedure

Record the 10-digit STID number and 11-digit ESN from the new module labels.

Connect the navigation antenna coaxial cable, electrical connectors, and mobile telephone antenna cable.

Reconfigure the OnStar system after replacing the VCIM, as failure to do so will result in an additional customer visit for repair.
