Introduction

Change the oil in your ’97-’01 Toyota Camry to improve engine performance and longevity.

For years, 3,000 miles was the correct interval to wait between oil changes; but that is no longer the case. Conventional oil in today’s engines can easily last over 5,000 miles between changes: Synthetic oils are even more durable, maintaining good engine performance beyond 10,000 miles.

Required Tools and Parts

TOOLS: 14mm socket, Funnel, Hydraulic Floor Jack, Jack Stands, Oil Drain Pan, Oil Filter Wrench (if necessary), Shop Towels or Rags.

PARTS: Engine Oil (5 quarts, 5W-30), Oil Filter (check online database or owner’s manual for acceptable filters).

Getting Started

Find the hood release lever, lift the hood, and locate the hood latch. Pull up on the latch and lift the hood open.

Place the hood prop rod into the hole located at the front of the hood on the passenger side.

Begin by locating the jacking point on the passenger side of the car, just behind the front wheel. Place the jack between the two notches and jack the car up.
