Overview

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT is a high-performance model with a 1570cc engine, featuring a combination of Weber 4ODCOE carburettors, improved camshafts, and a Bosch JF4 distributor. The car has a 5-speed gearbox and is known for its smooth running and power.

Suspension and Brakes

The Giulia Sprint GT has independent front suspension with double wishbones, coil springs, and dampers, along with an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension is a live rear axle with trailing arms and a reaction trunnion. The car comes with servo-assisted Dunlop disc brakes all-round.

Body and Interior

The car has a distinctive body design penned by Bertone’s young rising star, Giorgetto Giugiaro. The exterior features a step front bonnet, vertical front corner sidelights, rectangular wing repeaters, multi-bar side grilles, and a six-bar centre grille. The interior has a plain fabric-covered dash, smaller circular dials flanking the larger 40mph speedometer and 8,000 rpm rev-counter, and a black plastic-rimmed three-alloy-spoked steering wheel.

Specifications and Performance

The car has a 0-50mph time of 7.9 seconds, 0-60mph in 11.2 seconds, and a top speed of 112mph. It also has a fuel consumption of 22mpg overall and 24-26mpg typical.

Technical Issues

The car suffered from a fault in the front suspension, which caused seizure of the bottom wishbones, resulting in some cases of front suspension collapse. The problem was caused by the bottom wishbone pivot pin bushes seizing and ripping the pin from the cross-member.

Publications Review

The Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT has been praised by various publications for its performance, handling, and appearance. In an era where “Gran Turismo” is often used loosely, the Giulia Sprint GT is a refreshing return to reality.
