Introduction

The Exoseal-Cordis vascular closure device is designed to rapidly remove the introducer sheath from an arterial access, reducing the duration of hemostasis and the time patients are restricted to their beds.

Methods

This prospective, randomized, longitudinal study evaluated the efficacy and safety of the Exoseal-Cordis device compared to manual compression in 20 patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic endovascular procedures.

Results

The study found that the duration of compression was significantly shorter in the VCD group (2 minutes) compared to the manual compression group (21.2 minutes, p = 0.0005). The time to mobilization was also shorter in the VCD group (2.35 hours) compared to the manual compression group (6 hours, p = 0.0005).

Conclusion

The study concluded that the Exoseal-Cordis device is equally effective in achieving hemostasis compared to manual compression, but with shorter duration of compression and faster mobilization.
