Overview
The datasheet presents the HC Relay series from Panasonic, characterized by its miniature size, making it suitable for a broad range of applications. These relays offer longevity, with a minimum of 10^8 mechanical operations for the DC type, and a range of contact arrangements, such as 4 Form C (for 5 A at 250 V AC), three Form C versions, and one Form C (for 10 A at 250 V AC). They are compatible with both low and high-level loads, ranging from 100µA to 10A. Amber sealed and bifurcated contact types are available, specifically the HCAD and HCE Amber Relays.
Specifications
Contacts
Contact arrangements available are Form C, 2 Form C, 3 Form C, and 4 Form C with varying current resistances but all with an initial maximum of 30 mΩ. The contact materials include gold-flashed silver alloy and gold-clad silver nickel, ensuring reliable operation. Rated nominal switching capacities are 10 A, 7 A, and 5 A at 250 V AC, with maximum switching power ranging from 1,250 VA to 2,500 VA.
Coil
The nominal operating power for the AC coil (50 Hz) is 1.3 VA, less at 60 Hz at 1.2 VA, and for the DC coil is between 0.9 to 1.1 W. The minimum switching capacity is noted at 1mA and 1VDC, although it’s advised to verify this with the actual load due to potential changes influenced by various factors.
Characteristics
The maximum operating speed is 20 cpm at maximum rating, with an impressive initial insulation resistance of at least 1,000 MΩ at 500 V DC. Various breakdown voltages are guaranteed, such as 700 Vrms between open contacts and also between contact sets, and a significantly higher 2,000 Vrms between the contact and coil. Operational times include a maximum of 20 ms operate and release times at nominal voltage for both DC and AC types, and the temperature rise at 70°C does not surpass 80°C. Shock and vibration resistances are also specified, important for ensuring functionality under physical duress.
Environmental Conditions and Life Expectancy
The operating temperature range is noted from -50°C to +70°C, with an acceptable humidity range from 5 to 85% R.H. during operation, transport, and storage; importantly, freezing and condensing at low temperatures should be prevented. The relay weighs approximately 30g.
Expected life varies depending on the voltage, current, and type of load (resistive or inductive), with an electrical life span reaching 2×10^5 to 1×10^8 operations at 20 cpm, and a robust mechanical life when operated at 180 cpm.
