Overview

The datasheet outlines the specifications for Ceramic Chip Capacitors, which are multilayer chip capacitors known for low residual inductance, excellent frequency response, and minimal stray capacitance due to the absence of leads. The datasheet provides details on various types, such as NPO/COG, X7R, XSR, Z5U, and Y5V, each with unique characteristics and specifications suitable for different applications.

NPO/COG Capacitors

These capacitors have an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and exhibit a very stable temperature coefficient of ±30ppm/°C. The temperature voltage coefficient stands at -30ppm/V, and they have a maximum dissipation factor of 0.1% along with an insulation resistance greater than 1000 ohms F or 100 G ohms, whichever is less. The capacitors show no ageing and can withstand voltage 22.5 times greater than the rated DC working voltage (VDCW). Capable of tolerating a wide range of temperatures with negligible capacitance change, these capacitors maintain stable performance across varying environmental conditions.

X7R Capacitors

With an operational temperature window stretching from -55°C to +125°C, X7R capacitors have a temperature coefficient of ±15%. Unlike NPO/COG types, the X7R variation does not apply a temperature voltage coefficient. Dissipation factors range from a maximum of 2.5% to 10%, depending on the voltage rating and size of the capacitor. These devices also display an insulation resistance over 1000 ohms F or 100 G ohms at 25°C (with a decrease at higher temperatures) and an ageing rate of 2.5% per decade hour. With the same withstanding voltage as NPO/COG capacitors, X7R capacitors can handle 22.5 times their VDCW and have specified capacitance tolerances based on the chosen capacitor grade.

XSR Capacitors

XSR capacitors are specified for operation in a narrower temperature range of -55°C to +85°C and contain a maximum temperature coefficient of ±15%. Dissipation factor specifications are similar to those of X7R capacitors, with a maximum of 2.5% for 50 volts and 100 volts and varying for other voltage ratings and capacitor sizes. The insulation resistance and ageing rate are also consistent with X7R capacitors.

Z5U Capacitors

The Z5U capacitors’ operating temperature spans from +10°C to +85°C with a temperature coefficient of +22%/°C to -56%/°C. These capacitors present a dissipation factor up to 4.0% MAX and insulation resistance over 100 ohms F or 10 G ohms. Their ageing rate is higher at 5% per decade hour, yet they have the same capability to withstand voltages 22.5 times their VDCW as the previous types.

Y5V Capacitors

Y5V capacitors function within -30°C to +85°C and afford temperature coefficients ranging from +22%/°C to -82%/°C. These exhibit a broader range of dissipation factors depending on their rated voltage, extending up to 20% MAX for values above 10pF. The insulation resistance and ageing characteristics are akin to those of Z5U capacitors, providing similar reliability.

All component types in this section comply with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) regulations mandated by the European Union, ensuring that they are free from restricted hazardous materials and are environmentally friendly.
