Introduction to the BSW-LB Series
The Omron BSW-LB series is a line of light convergent reflective type sensors that are designed for precise detection tasks. This user manual is intended to provide users with guidance for effective application and detailed instructions about the product’s features.
Product Line Overview
The BSW-LB series includes different models catered to varying requirements:
- BSW-LB11 series: Standard model with digital output.
- BSW-LB21 series: Models featuring a miniature or super miniature form factor, with either digital or analog outputs.
All digital output models operate on a 24VDC supply voltage, with a digital output that is PLC-compatible, while the analog output model operates on a 5VDC supply voltage and can be directly connected to a microcomputer’s A/D input terminal, allowing for threshold level adjustments.
Key Specifications
- Sensing distance varies from 2 to 55mm, depending on the model.
- The sensor’s supply voltage requirements are specified as either 24VDC or 5VDC, with a ±10% tolerance.
- Available output configurations include Light ON/Dark ON with operation indicator lamps accordingly.
Construction and Operation
The construction of the BSW-LB series consists of:
- An optical lens with a visible light cutting filter.
- An infrared LED.
- A photo receiver for detecting the reflected light.
- An analog circuit with a variable resistor for internal use.
The analog output model, BSW-LB21 series, requires precise threshold level adjustments based on application details such as sensing distance and the type of object being detected. It also necessitates a pulsed signal for LED operation and has provisions for dealing with external light interference.
The digital output models, on the other hand, have a fixed threshold level and include an NPN open collector output, with some variants featuring an operational indicator lamp.
Special Notes
Users are strongly cautioned not to adjust or touch the variable resistor in the analog model, as it is for Omron’s internal use and tampering with it could result in the sensor not meeting specified product standards.
Further guidance on circuit connections, recommended pulse signals, and external light canceling techniques are provided on page 6 under ‘Usage guidance (Circuit)’. This detailed information ensures optimal sensor performance in its intended application.
