Overview
The VH CONNECTOR is a crimp style connector with 3.96mm pitch designed for disconnectability and reliability for use in printed circuit boards. Suitable for various signal, power supply, and output circuits, this connector is geared towards consumer electronic products.
Specifications
The VH CONNECTOR has a current and voltage rating of 10 A AC, DC with AWG #16 wires and 250 V AC, DC respectively. It operates effectively within a temperature range of -25°C to +85°C. It has an initial contact resistance of 10 mΩ max, which may rise to 20 mΩ max following environmental tests. Additionally, it boasts an insulation resistance of 1000 MΩ min and can withstand 500 VAC for one minute. Compatible wire sizes range from AWG #22 to AWG #16, and it accommodates a PC board thickness of 1.6 mm.
Important Notes
Users should avoid branching current beyond its rated capacity in parallel, as it may cause current imbalance or other issues. For any necessary large current branching in parallel, phosphor bronze contacts are recommended alongside a balanced circuit design with a sufficient margin for each circuit. Details on this are provided in the “General Instruction and Notice when using Terminals and Connectors” section of the catalog. The connector is also RoHS compliant, advising users to contact JST for brass products.
Design and Certification
The connector features a proven box contact design with a compact structure and a large capacity. It ensures secure contact and mounting with various types of headers, including locking headers with top and side entry and a shrouded header. Moreover, it is recognized and certified under multiple standards, including E60389, LR20812, and R75122.
Components and Materials
Components like the crimp applicator and dies are tailored for different models of the VH CONNECTOR, ensuring precision and efficiency in the crimping process. Materials predominantly involve phosphor bronze with tin-plating, embodying environmental consciousness by adhering to RoHS standards. Other housing and retainer models are available, each specifying different quantities, dimensions, and materials like PA 6 and glass-filled PA 66, both UL94V-0 rated.
Identifying Features
Dimensional figures and tolerance levels for the connector are illustrated for optimal design usage. For the retention of high voltage safety, models like VHR-(M have safety features integrated. An added utility for easy identification is the color-coding system, where the part number changes with the color of the retainer, offering natural (white), black, red, blue, and other color options.
