Important Safety Alert for Toyota and Lexus Hybrid Vehicles
Be cautious when performing boost services on Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles to avoid damaging the Engine ECU (Electronic Control Unit).
Incorrect connection points can cause damage, and the manufacturer recommends a specific connection point approximately 38″ from the positive boost terminal/ECU.
Procedure for Safe Jump Start
Before attempting to boost, confirm with the customer that they have not previously tried to boost the vehicle.
Take pictures of the engine ECU and brackets for evidence of existing clamp marks or electrical arching.
Refer to the vehicle’s owner’s manual for recommended connection points and follow the instructions.
If unable to boost using recommended equipment, use an alternative ground point that is solid, stationary, and unpainted metallic, and as far away as possible from the positive terminal and moving parts.
Take before and after photos of the connection points used.
If the vehicle still won’t start after the boost attempt, tow it to a dealership.
