This technical bulletin is intended for trained, professional technicians and provides guidance on diagnosing and repairing a ‘clattering’ / ‘knock’ ‘rattle’ noise in the engine of certain Land Rover models.
Affected Vehicle Range
The following Land Rover models are affected by this issue:
- Range Rover Sport (LW) Model Year: 2014 Onwards
- Range Rover (LG) Model Year: 2013 Onwards
- Range Rover Sport (LS) Model Year: 2010-2013
- Range Rover (LM) Model Year: 2010-2012
Symptoms and Repair Procedure
If a customer reports a ‘clattering’ / ‘knock’ ‘rattle’ noise, the technician should follow the Service Instruction outlined below.
The procedure involves removing the supercharger drive belt, rotating the supercharger pulley by hand, and checking for excessive backlash or damage. If the symptoms persist, a new supercharger assembly may be required. The supercharger spring isolator kit can also be fitted to resolve the issue.
