Mazda has issued a safety recall for certain 2001-2004 Tribute vehicles due to a corrosion-related separation of the lower control arm from the subframe, which may result in diminished vehicle directional control and increase the risk of a crash.

Recall Information

The recall affects vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in high-corrosion states, including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by first-class mail, and dealers should repair any subject vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, regardless of whether the customer has received a letter.

Parts and Labor Information

The recall includes the replacement of the front subframe, crossbrace kit, and other parts, with labor costs waived for warranty-covered vehicles.

Warranty Claim Processing Information

Dealers should follow the warranty claim processing information provided in Attachment II, including inspecting the front subframe, installing the crossbrace kit, and replacing the front subframe, depending on the vehicle’s condition.
