Safety Recall Overview
Ford is issuing a safety recall for certain 2013-2014 Fusion, 2013-2015 Transit Connect, 2014 Escape, and 2014-2015 Fiesta ST vehicles equipped with a 1.6L EcoBoost engine coolant level sensor system. The recall is due to localized overheating of the engine cylinder head, which may cause the cylinder head to crack and result in a pressurized oil leak that could lead to a fire in the engine compartment.
Affected Vehicles
The affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN lists, and include:
* 2014 Escape
* 2013-2015 Transit Connect
* 2013-2014 Fusion
* 2014-2015 Fiesta ST
Service Action
Dealers are instructed to perform repairs on affected vehicles, which include enhancements to the engine cooling and control systems. Parts ordering information and repair instructions are available for Escape vehicles, and dealers are to use the Transit Connect, Fusion, and Fiesta ST technical information in Attachment III to perform cooling system pressure tests and repairs, as necessary.
Owners of affected vehicles will be directed to dealers for repairs, and owners of Escape vehicles will be notified of the final repair in January 2018. Transit Connect, Fusion, and Fiesta ST vehicles will receive a Dealer Bulletin Supplement with parts ordering information and repair instructions in January and February 2018, respectively.
Dealers are pre-approved for up to 1 day for a rental vehicle and will only be reimbursed for the cost associated with an engine coolant leak or overheat. Refunds will only be provided for repairs performed prior to the date indicated in the reimbursement plan.
