This service bulletin announces the capability of the Generation 6.1 OnStar@ system to change the default English voice recognition to French or Spanish.

Symptoms:

The OnStar@ system can automatically be enrolled by the sales department during the delivery process, or can be changed manually by pressing the blue OnStar@ button and asking an advisor to change the resident language.

The system will delete all previously stored nametags and will only recognize commands in the selected language.

The process can be repeated to change the language setting again, but the system will require all new nametags to be entered.

Methods to Change Language:

Method 1: Online Enrollment

The preferred method is to enroll the vehicle online through GM Dealerworld (GM GlobalConnect in Canada) and select the desired language.

Method 2: Advisor Assistance

Ask an advisor to change the resident language to the preferred language of the customer, and ensure that all future calls are routed to the OnStar@ department that speaks the preferred language.

Method 3: In-vehicle Change

Press and hold the white “Phone” button until the system responds with the option to change the language, then select the desired language and confirm the change.

Important: The OnStar@ system will only accept or respond to commands in its present language. Once the change has been confirmed, it will then accept or respond only to commands in its new language setting.

This service bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with OnStar@ Generation 6.1 or later with a Station Identification (STID) Number in the following range: 16,000,000-17,000,000 or 20,000,000-21,999,999 or 23,500,001-26,000,000.
