Oil Level Maintenance

It’s recommended to check the engine oil level about five minutes after a fully warmed engine is shut off.

Do not check the oil level before starting the engine after it has sat overnight.

Factors Affecting Oil Change Intervals

Various road conditions and driving habits can affect the interval at which your oil should be changed.

Check the following list to see if any apply to you:

  • Day and night temperatures below 32°F (0°C)
  • Stop-and-go driving
  • Extensive engine idling
  • Driving in dusty conditions
  • Short trips of less than 10 miles (16 km)
  • Sustained high speeds during hot weather (above 90°F/32°C)
  • Trailer towing
  • Off-road or desert operation

CAUTION: Overfilling the crankcase can cause oil aeration, leading to loss of oil pressure and increased oil temperature, which can damage your engine.
